After the tragic passing of her son and daughter-in-law, Granny Yvonne adopted her eight-year-old grandson Kern. She provided for him, encouraged his desire to study at university, and become a business owner. ​

There’s so much life has to offer, and Kern was always full of life. Though a classic jokester by nature, he worked diligently at school and excitedly hoped for the days he’d live on campus and enjoy all the perks of campus life. ​

Shortly after completing his exams, Granny Yvonne suffered a mild heart attack. The weeks that followed rocked them both, but Kern’s acceptance into university made Granny Yvonne proud; her grandson was taking charge of his destiny against all odds. Determined to care for her, Kern altered his plan – he’d live at home while studying at university.

Of course, Granny was worried. She didn’t want him travelling late at night, books in hand, tired after a long day. That was never an option. Granny Yvonne decided to get Kern a small car- something simple, to take him to school and back home safely. ​
Alas, they made it happen with a little help and the right advice!​

During one of his breaks between classes, he spotted Alana laughing uncontrollably with friends as she walked across the greens. The moment they met; he knew she was someone special. It was no surprise when they announced their engagement during their final year.
